2014 Winter Assignment Highlights – Cadet Stephanie Sawchuk:
Every opportunity we are given to be out in this beautiful territory sharing in ministry is a true blessing from God. My field assignments have always been where I have been pushed to see beyond my own comforts, stretched in new ways, and encouraged to be who God has called me to be. This Winter I was sent to beautiful Stratford, Ontario were I was blessed to share in ministry with Major Denise Walker and her incredible team! Stratford, being a smaller community, was a new experience for me and I got to witness the generosity and love of this amazing community. They came together and made goals a reality. Surpassing many of their goals, I watched as countless volunteers came forward to support the Christmas campaigns. I was overwhelmed by the over-abundance of food that was donated to support the Stratford and Mitchell Family Services. Toys were overflowing and were pouring in from people all over the region to ensure Christmas for everyone. Most importantly I watched as God moved and touched lives all around me. The Salvation Army is an amazing thing to be a part of especially at Christmas. I can’t count the number of seeds that may have been planted through all the lives touched and helped through their campaigns. I experienced so much personal growth and reflection over my two weeks there. God always knows what we need and when exactly we need it. He placed me in Stratford for so many different reasons and blessed me every single day I was there. I can truly say that I am a different person after returning from Stratford and am ready for this next six months and all that God has in store for me.
