Cadets Juan Chirinos & Indira Albert (Disciples of the Cross session) were assigned to Regina, SK for their Winter Assignment. They share their experience with us.

We remember the week before coming to Regina and thinking about a classic song, “It’s Beginning to Look a Lot Like Christmas” by Meredith Williams. When we wonder what is it that makes Christmas look so different than the rest of the month, we all see that this is the season when winter looks so beautiful everywhere; lights, decorations, colors, Christmas carols, the all around dressing up of Christmas and rejoicing. For us as a family this season is a special time of the year, it’s the time when we decorate our home, letting our kids, Samuel and Allison decorate the Christmas tree and make the traditional gingerbread house… But most of all we celebrate Jesus’ birth, our Saviour.

After finishing our first semester at CFOT and getting our winter assignment in Haven of Hope Ministry in Regina, we have had the opportunity to serve and make this Christmas so special for families, kids and the homeless in the Regina Community, by experiencing a ministry unit that includes: Church, Family Service, Special Care Home, Shelter for women, men and youth. We had the opportunity to provide leadership on Sunday morning services, as well as sharing devotionals in the different places, hampers, kettles and some singing a long, making this month “Look a lot like Christmas.”

Special thanks to Majors Doug and Joanne Binner, for sharing their passion, love and wisdom with us. To Kathy and Chris Wicks for opening your house to our family and making us feel at home, and to the Salvation Army Haven of Hope Community staff for embracing us among them. We pray that we will continue to serve the Lord and share our mission with love and passion proclaiming the hope, joy and salvation that comes from Christ alone.
