Winter Youth Retreat Feb 28-Mar 2, 2014 014Major Glenys Pilgrim, Cadet Sam Tim, Cadet Bhreagh Rowe, and myself, Cadet Daniel Rowe had the Godgiven opportunity to attend the 2014 Maritime Division Winter Youth Retreat. Following the theme of “Awake, My Soul!” all of us either did a sermon, devotional, testimony or led worship. During the first session we opened ourselves to the movement of the Holy Spirit.

The Holy Spirit moved.

There was never a dull moment during this weekend. The progression throughout the worship times together (four in total) was from being asleep and ignoring the movement and calling of God in our lives to being awake and not only listening for the call of God but actually doing something about it; following it.

The Holy Spirit moved.

We also gathered together on Saturday night for an awesome, hilarious “Maritime’s Got Talent” show. From black light mime, to a very awkward rendition of the Spice Girls; from a crazy light show where the performers taped glow sticks on themselves and threw them to the audience, to an amazing solo of Hosanna Praise is Rising.

The Holy Spirit moved.

Cadet Bhreagh preached the Sunday sermon which called everyone not to be “numb” to what goes on around us. She related this to going home after a Youth Retreat, being on fire for God but then going back to our normal way of life – being numb. She challenged all listeners by asking the question taken from Psalm 57, “Are we ready? Are we ready from head to toe” to go back into the world and not be ashamed of the God who saved us. She then invited everyone to write on a piece of duct tape something that’s holding us back from pursuing what Jesus wants for us.

The Holy Spirit moved…a lot.

On behalf of the College for Officer Training and all of us who participated in the weekend, we say a huge thank you to Captains Morgan and Lisa Hillier (Divisional Youth Secretary and Asst. Divisional Youth Secretary), Major Alison Cowling (Divisional Commander – Maritime Division), Major Everett Barrow (Area Commander – Southern Region), Major Violet Barrow (Divisional Secretary for Women’s Ministries), Major Wilson Perrin (Divisional Secretary for Business Administration), and Major Winifred Perrin (Divisional Secretary for Adult Ministries), who supported the event.  Also, a BIG thank you to all the youth and youth leaders!

The Holy Spirit moved…and will continue to move!
