Pine Lake Camp | Cadet Donna Rabourn
I had the privilege of attending the Winter Weekend, at Pine Lake Camp, from February 7th to the 9th. Pine Lake Camp is located in Alberta, near Red Deer. Even covered in snow, it is a beautiful site, complete with rolling hills and set right by the lake.
The theme for the weekend was ‘The Great Awakening’, and we were encouraged to wake up, get dressed, get ready and get going! Our speaker was Danielle Strickland, who, among other things, wrote a book with her husband called “Boundless”. If you haven’t read it, you should, and then give it to someone else to read! Danielle had one of the teens stand beside her while she preached on Saturday morning,. He was wrapped up in toilet paper; he was ‘Lazarus’. After she finished speaking, we all took turns taking some of the ‘grave clothes’ off ‘Lazarus’ and then threw it in the bonfire outside. It symbolized our desire to have God take any ‘deadness’ off of us, so that we can truly live for Him. It was a powerful time. “ But God, who is rich in mercy, out of the great love with which he loved us even when we were dead through our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved” Eph 2:5.
Students from Prairie Bible College came out with their band to lead us in worship for the weekend. Saturday afternoon was fun time, and some campers went skiing, some went tubing, and some hung out in the warm lodges. A record was set: Ten people on one tube all the way down the hillside! Sunday lunch time saw us saying goodbye to camp caretakers Beth and Ritchie, who, after five years of caretaking, are moving on in April. They will be sorely missed.
Pine Lake Winter Camp was a great experience, the teens and young adults attending the camp were involved and attentive, and boy can they sing and dance!
Cadet Donna Rabourn, along with her husband Ian, is a part of the Heralds of Grace session (2013-2015).
