SPIRITUAL LIFE | THE 24-7:52 PRAYER INITIATIVE

By salvation Category Events

As a response to the Global Call for 24-7 Prayer, The Salvation Army Canada and Bermuda Territory has issued a 24-7:52 prayer initiative.  This is to continue from Holy Week 2011 to Holy Week 2012.  This call to prayer runs deeper than the call by any Salvation Army leader; it is a call from Jesus to us, his disciples today.  As he asked Simon Peter in the Garden of Gesthemane, he asks us today, “Could you not watch for one hour?”  (Mark 14: 37, NIV).  Let us pray for the many who will say yes to the call to pray.

A Day and Night Cry for Justice:  A meditation on being “persistent”

“Persistence” is defined by the Encarta Dictionary (on-line) as “the quality of continuing steadily despite problems or difficulties; its synonyms include diligence, perseverance, determination, resolution, and doggedness”. In Luke 18:1-8, Jesus chooses a widow – a person we know to have low status and autonomy in the culture of the times – as an illustration of the tenancy and the orientation of the heart He asks of all of us in seeking Him and enlisting His spiritual authority to intervene in humanity’s state of affairs, and indeed our state of salvation.

“And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? I tell you, he will see that they get justice, and quickly.” (Luke 18: 7, 8).

LORD, we pray that The Salvation Army be one of God’s fruitful agents of “salvational” change; to work tirelessly to free those who are spiritually and socially poor.  We know we are only as effective as our own relational soundness (closeness, holiness) with God.  May Jesus find the evidence of faith on the earth upon his return, in his chosen ones crying out to him day and night.  May we be a part of the faith that he finds.  AMEN.  (With thanks to the Centre for Spiritual Life Development for the prayer content)
